We finally got the LED to light up!
We purchased some new materials at Central Hobbies, such as pure copper plate, gold sticker, and alligator clips. Once we got home, we did exactly what we did yesterday, but we replaced the copper wire with copper plate to make it more stable. Then, we spent some time watching tutorials on how to do basic electrical wiring. We figured out that the wires that we used for wiring yesterday were too thin. We replaced the thin copper wires with the thicker ones, and it worked! The voltage could reach close to 5V, and that’s good enough to light 2 LEDs.
After we figured this out, we thought that it would be nice to work on our second feature of the lamp, which was to purify dirty water. We collected some charcoal, stones, sand, and cloth to do this experiment. The layers, from top to bottom) are charcoal, stone, sand, and cloth. We poured dirty water in, and we successfully filtered it. However, we were not brave enough to taste the water.
